Golf Rangefinder Cases: Which Case Fits Your Model (Bushnell, Garmin, Precision Pro)

Almost any golf rangefinder case sold as “universal” will fit your laser unit: Bushnell, Garmin, Precision Pro, Blue Tees and Callaway rangefinders are all roughly 4 to 4.6 inches tall and under 2 inches wide. The real choice is the shell (EVA hard case, soft pouch, leather or waxed canvas), the closure (zipper, magnetic flap or elastic strap) and how it hangs on the bag. Prices run from about $6 for a no-name EVA shell to around $170 for a leather cover.

The cases, tier by tier

Universal EVA hard-shell case (around $6–15)

A molded EVA shell with a soft lining, a zipper and a carabiner is what most brands put in the box, minus the logo. Amazon and Walmart listings run $6 to $15 and quote 5 to 5.7 inches inside; a few use an elastic strap instead of a zipper. It is the only type at this price that survives a drop from the cart. Watch-out: thin zippers fail first, and a loose fit lets the unit rattle. Most have a lining pocket for a spare CR2 battery.

Mid-range clip cases: Precision Pro, Jones, Palm (around $17–42)

Precision Pro lists its hard-shell case on its carrying cases page at $19.99 on sale from $29.99, cut for the NX7, NX9 and NX10 but usable with any standard laser. The Jones Rangefinder Pouch is the soft-pouch pick: a Heritage line at $42 (often near $29 on sale) and licensed college designs at $38, rated about 4.6/5. Guerrilla Golf (about $20) and Big Max (about $25) sell similar clip-on cases, and Palm’s Utility Bag (about $35, rated 4.8/5 by about 96 buyers) adds a phone compartment behind the rangefinder pocket. Watch-out: brand cases sell out between seasons.

North Coast Golf Co. Rangefinder Case (around $70–75)

The North Coast case is the premium case built for weather, not just looks: a waterproof double zipper with paracord pulls, a magnetic flap for one-handed access, and two inside pockets for a spare battery and ball marker. It is $70 in plain “Body” colors, $75 as the Fighter Patch, rated 4.4/5 on the brand site. Watch-out: you pay for materials, not extra fit.

Lopar and Bluegrass Fairway canvas cases (around $69–110)

Lopar sells Waxed Canvas and American Flag cases at $75 and a Premium Leather case at $69, and its buyer’s guide is useful on waterproofing (it is a brand blog). Bluegrass Fairway makes handmade cases: The Recon in waxed canvas at $80, and Harris Tweed and Pendleton wool versions to about $110. Waxed canvas is the practical pick; it sheds rain and needs no conditioning. Wool and tweed belong on a bag that stays dry.

Golden Soul Finder and Malbon Tour Divot Camo (around $128–170)

Golden Soul Golf sells leather “Finder” covers in named colorways (Bamberg, Tallin, Terracota and others) at $150–170; Malbon’s Tour Divot Camo case is about $128. Neither protects a rangefinder better than a $12 EVA shell; you are buying leather, print and a brand, a fine reason if you own the matching headcovers. If the goal is keeping a $500 laser safe, buy a hard shell and a magnetic strap.

How to choose a golf rangefinder case

1. Measure your unit. Most golf lasers are 4–4.6 in tall and 1.5–2 in wide; any case listing 4.75 in or more inside fits. For the bulkier Bushnell Pro X3 and Garmin Approach Z82, check listed internal dimensions.
2. Hard shell or soft pouch. Only a molded EVA shell handles a drop onto the cart path; a soft pouch opens faster but is a scratch-and-rain cover. Either way, look for a soft lining.
3. Closure speed. A zipper is secure and slow. A magnetic flap or elastic strap opens one-handed, which is why cart golfers prefer them.
4. Weather. Waxed canvas and EVA shed rain; leather, wool and tweed need to dry out.
5. Attachment. A carabiner on a bag ring is standard. If you mostly ride, a magnetic strap or cart holder may be the better product.

Does the stock case matter, and when should you replace it?

Every major brand ships a case, and most last years. Bushnell sells official replacement cases for the Tour and Pro series (see Bushnell rangefinder cases); the Callaway 300 Pro ships with a molded hard case and carabiner; Blue Tees sells a magnetic-lock hard case for the Series 3 Max family.

Replace it when the zipper splits, the elastic stretches out, the carabiner cracks, or you lose it on a cart. The underrated fifth reason: GolfWRX owners who want something better than the OEM Bushnell V6 zippered case mostly complain that a two-handed zipper is slow; a magnetic flap or strap fixes that.

Magnetic rangefinder cases vs. magnetic straps

“Magnetic rangefinder case” means two things. One is a case with a magnetic flap instead of a zipper (North Coast, Bushnell’s magnetic-closure case, cheap PU-leather flap pouches). The other is a magnetic strap or sleeve that sticks the unit to a cart frame. Many units already have a magnet built in: Bushnell’s BITE mount on the Tour V5 Shift, Tour V6 Shift and Pro X3, the Blue Tees Series 3 Max, the Precision Pro NX10. Where to hang a rangefinder case on your golf bag

Clip it to the top ring on the side that faces you when the bag is on a cart or stand, above the club heads.
