If you are choosing between two, the battery and slope columns are the two specifications that change how the thing behaves week to week — and the two that manufacturer marketing pages bury.

Bushnell Tour V6 / V6 Shift
Battery: CR2 3V lithium.
Slope: Shift models: side Slope-Switch. Plain V6: no slope.
Takes the same CR2 as the V5. The Shift version is the one that is tournament-legal with the switch closed.

The one model Bushnell sells an official replacement battery cap for — useful, because that cap is the part owners lose.

Bushnell Tour V4 / V4 Shift
Battery: CR2 3V lithium, screw cap.
Slope: V4 Shift: slide the Tour V4 emblem on the left side down until the red mark is hidden. Plain V4: no slope.
A 2016 model still generating more owner questions than most current units — a large installed base with ageing documentation.

Bushnell Tour V3
Battery: CR2 3V lithium, screw cap.
Slope: Slope Edition only.
Old enough that unit-switching and “stuck on meters” are the two things owners search for most.

Bushnell Pro X3 / X3+
Battery: CR2 3V lithium, screw cap.
Slope: Locking Slope-Switch: unlock, then slide to off.
The lock stops the switch moving around in the bag. Replacement caps are sold for the X3+.

Bushnell Pro XE
Battery: CR2 3V lithium, screw cap.
Slope: Side Slope-Switch; slide to hide the indicator.
Factors temperature and barometric pressure into the compensated number as well as elevation.

Bushnell Pro X2
Battery: CR2 3V lithium, screw cap.
Slope: Slope switch on the side.
Superseded by the Pro X3 but common on the used market.

Bushnell A1 Slope
Battery: CR2 3V lithium.
Slope: Press Mode to turn slope on or off — no switch.
The odd one out in the Bushnell line: slope is a mode, not a slider, so there is no physical indicator to show a rules official.

Battery: Built-in rechargeable.
Slope: GPS handheld — no laser slope.
Charging cable only; there is no user-replaceable cell.

Battery: CR123A 3V lithium — not a CR2.
Slope: Slope Edition only.
The one Bushnell laser that does not take a CR2. Ordering the wrong cell is the most common mistake on this model.

Slope: Flip the side slope switch to off — no colour showing means off.
Precision Pro sells a replacement battery door for around $8, which is unusual and worth knowing before you write a unit off.

The trap here is the Max versus Max+: same name, completely different power source. Check the port before you buy a spare CR2.

How to read this index
Battery. A CR2 is a 3-volt lithium photo cell about the size of half an AA. It is not rechargeable in its standard form, and the rechargeable “RCR2” cells sold alongside it run at a different voltage — several manufacturers warn against them. If a model here says “built-in rechargeable”, there is no cell to replace; when it stops holding charge, that is a warranty or service question, not a battery question.
Slope. Under the Rules of Golf a distance-measuring device is allowed, but measuring elevation change is not — so in competition the slope function has to be off. Units with a physical switch and a coloured indicator make that easy to show. Units where slope is a menu setting or a mode press are equally legal with it off, but you have nothing external to point at. See are rangefinders legal in golf for the rule itself.
What is not here. We do not list maximum range or magnification in this index. Published maximum ranges are measured against highly reflective targets and are not comparable between brands, and repeating them without testing would give them more authority than they deserve. Where a spec genuinely changes how a unit behaves — battery, slope control, whether a magnet is built in — it is on the model’s own line above.
Which golf rangefinders take a CR2 battery?
Nearly all of them. Every Bushnell Tour and Pro laser in this index runs on a single CR2 3V lithium cell, as do the Callaway 300 Pro, the Precision Pro NX7, NX9 and NX10, the Blue Tees Series 2 Pro, Series 3 Max and Series 4 Ultra, and the Nikon Coolshot line. The exceptions are the Garmin Approach Z82 and Z30, the Blue Tees Series 3 Max+ and Bushnell’s Phantom GPS units, which charge over USB, and the older Bushnell Pro X7, which takes a CR123A.
How do I know if my rangefinder has slope?
Look for a switch on the side of the housing with a coloured mark under it, usually orange, red or green. If the colour is visible, slope is on. Bushnell calls this Slope-Switch; Precision Pro and Blue Tees use the same idea. If there is no switch, check whether the model has a Mode button that cycles through slope — the Bushnell A1 Slope and most Amazon-brand units work that way.
Is a model missing from this list?
Probably because we could not confirm its battery type or slope control from a manufacturer source. We would rather leave a model out than publish a specification we cannot stand behind — a wrong battery type costs you a wasted order. Tell us which model and we will add it once we can source it.
Which of these are still current models?
The Bushnell Tour V7 Shift is the current Tour flagship, with the V6 Shift a generation behind and the V5 Shift two behind. Nikon has wound down its golf laser line. Everything else in this index is either current or recent enough to be widely available used. Previous-generation flagships are where the deepest discounts land — see the deals page.
Can I use these battery and slope details to buy used?
Yes, and they are the two things to check first. A used unit with a built-in rechargeable cell carries the risk that the cell is near the end of its life with no way to replace it. A used unit taking a CR2 can be brought back with a $4 battery. Our used buying guide has the full inspection checklist.
Where do the specifications come from?
Manufacturer support pages and help centres — Bushnell Golf’s per-model support articles, the Blue Tees help centre, Precision Pro’s product guides and Garmin’s manuals — plus battery retailers’ fitment listings where a manufacturer does not state the cell type. Each linked guide lists its own sources.
