How to Change a Rangefinder From Meters to Yards: Button Steps for Every Model

To change a golf rangefinder from meters to yards, press and hold one button, usually labeled Mode, Y/M or Power/Fire, for 3 to 10 seconds until the small letter in the display flips from M to Y. Which button, how long, and whether the unit must be off first depends on the model.

Brand by brand: what the units button is called

Bushnell

Two layouts. The Tour V3, Tour V4 and V4 Shift have one Power/Fire button, so the units menu lives inside a long press that only works from the off state; release late and you land on the next option, so run the cycle again. The Tour V5 Shift, V6 Shift, V7 Shift, Pro XE and Pro X3 add a second top button labeled Y/M or Mode: wake the unit, hold that button, done. Slope on these is a physical switch; see turning slope on or off.

Precision Pro

The method changed almost every generation, hence all the “precision pro meters to yards” searches. On the NX10 and NX7 the display must be dark before you hold Power; on the NX9 Slope you hold the black Mode button 3 seconds with the unit awake. Nothing after 10 seconds? Let it go dark and retry.

Garmin, Blue Tees, Callaway and Amazon brands

Garmin’s Approach Z82 and Z30 keep units in the Settings menu. For the Blue Tees Series 3 Max, Callaway 300 Pro, RedTiger, Revasri and similar units, find the second button on the body, labeled Mode, M/Y or Unit, and hold it 2–3 seconds, exactly what Gogogo describes for its own models. Why did my rangefinder switch to meters by itself?

Almost always an accidental long press. On single-button Bushnells the Power/Fire button opens the setup cycle when held 7 seconds, and a unit wedged in a cup holder can do that on its own. Nothing is broken: run the sequence in the table. If it also started vibrating or showing a second number, you went one step further and turned slope on; here is how to turn it off.

Stuck in setup mode or stuck on meters

“Tour V4 stuck in setup mode” and “Tour V3 stuck on meters” are timing problems. The display cycles about once a second while you hold; release between options and the unit sits on a blank or half-lit screen. Let it power down (touch nothing for 30 seconds), then hold Power/Fire again and release exactly on Y.

If the cycle never starts, suspect the battery: a CR2 that still fires the laser can be too weak for the setup routine. Fit a fresh one (our Bushnell battery guide shows how) and retry. A button that feels mushy or stays down is a warranty or repair question, not a settings one.

Can a rangefinder measure in feet?

Golf lasers from Bushnell, Garmin, Precision Pro, Blue Tees and Callaway display yards or meters only. “Rangefinder in feet” searches come from disc golfers (the sport is measured in feet in the US) and people measuring property. Disc-golf lasers such as the MVP Parsec cycle meters, feet and yards from the mode button; under 100 feet a hardware-store laser measure is more accurate anyway, because golf units round to the nearest yard.
